Cross country skiing is an event many skiers train for every year. They train for weeks even months to gain physical strength and be able to sustain the difficult weather and physical challenges needed to be able to compete. Once they have trained intensively and are ready to compete, skiers ski across a certain country to reach a finish point and win an award. They start off at a specified point and ski their way through the snow, making stops at pre-marked areas to rest and sleep, they then continue down the trail after they have re-gained physical stamina, and they continue skiing until they reach the finish line. The competitor who does it in the fastest time wins the competition and is awarded a prize.
